What makes a duck meat special?

– it is a lean meat comparable in fat and calories to a skinless chicken or turkey breast
– an excellent source of selenium and zinc, both of which encourage good cellular metabolism
– contains higher amounts of iron than other poultry

I’ve never tasted any duck dish until last September 10, when the leading Manila-based exporter, Donny’s Choice –– together with Thailand’s biggest duck meat provider, BR Group of Companies — has officially brought the latter’s finest duck brand, Dalee, to the Philippines.

Celebrities, businessmen, notable media bodies and individuals were present in the brand launch where Pinoy Celebrity Chefs Boy Logro, Rosebud Benitez, and Gene Gonzales prepared duck dishes fused with Filipino cuisine.

Thai Celebrity Chef William Leong, who has expertise in duck courses graced the event as well. I didn’t know that duck meat tastes good until I tried one of his dishes.

My top pick as the best duck dish of the night by Thai Celebrity Chef William Leong.

Performances by Tawag ng Tanghalan Grand Champion, @janineberdin and the Philippine Barangay Folk Dance Troupe entertained the guests as they savor a dozen or more duck dishes served that night.

Duck Day Manila will be held annually as Donny’s Choice aims to make September 10 as National Duck Day in the Philippines with the official declaration of Office of the President and National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
